The owner of 210 Main Street East is delegating to Councillors on Monday to ask for "incentives for building a new affordable housing".

The ownership group was in front of the City's Design Review Panel in July 2016 with a proposal for a student residence building.

The Chair of DPR described the proposal as being "like Stalingrad", and all members of DRP voiced serious concerns about nearly all aspects of the plan.

For his part, the owner declared that he shouldn't be subject to DRP, and that the panel was interfering with his right to earn profit.

Affordable Housing Proposal

I spoke briefly with Councillor Jason Farr this morning. He says the affordable housing proposal is new, and not an attempt to use affordable housing to get past design review.

Farr says these units will be below market rates.

The presentation is scheduled for 1:30pm.
