Walkers and Wheelchairs on HSR Buses: Who Gets Priority?

The City's Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities (ACPD) is looking into what policies the HSR has in place for the use of accessible wheelchair spaces on buses.

Members of the ACPD say there are times that wheelchair users are not being boarded on buses because drivers say they cannot move walkers out of wheelchair spaces.

Both users of wheelchairs and walkers ride HSR buses at no charge; and there are concerns they are not receiving good customer service due to the "myth" that people are using walkers unnecessarily to get free HSR transportation.

The matter has been referred by ACPD to the HSR for clarification of policies.
