Province Enacts Adds Landfills to Property Tax Rebate Regulations

Ontario's landfill operators are getting a break from the province; they can now apply for municipal property tax rebates for vacant portions of their landfills.

They may not automatically receive the credit with recent Municipal Act changes enabling municipalities to set local vacancy rebate policies, it is possible for local municipalities to deny the rebate if they create a local policy.

(Which will likely see the first enacting municipality taken to the Ontario Municipal Board on an appeal.)
