The Claremont Access is closed downbound "to safely complete urgent repairs" says the City in a short statement this morning.

At a budget GIC, in response to a Council question, staff expanded to state the closure is the result of a seeing a tree posing a danger, which indicates the need for immediate rock-scaling.

No timeline was provided on the work and eventual reopening of the access.

The Claremont, infamously, experienced a failure of a large portion of the retaining wall along the south face of the access in February 2012.

The City, facing a costly repair and having an excess lane of traffic, closed the downbound curb lane after the rock sliede.
